Why study with us
The School of Environmental Science addresses Nigeria's growing demand for skilled technicians in design, property, and construction economics. RECTEM trains students in Architectural Technology, Estate Management and Valuation, and Quantity Surveying—three disciplines that work together on housing, infrastructure, and commercial development projects.
Leading polytechnics such as Federal Polytechnic Bauchi and Federal Polytechnic Offa organise environmental schools around studio work, site measurement, building technology, and professional documentation. RECTEM adopts the same philosophy: you learn to produce drawings, support valuations and lettings, and prepare cost documents that keep projects on budget.
Graduates join architectural practices, estate agencies, quantity surveying consultancies, contractors, and government ministries. With further study and registration pathways, many build long careers in the built environment.
Academic pathways
Programmes run for four semesters with studio, workshop, and site-oriented practice, plus SIWES in relevant firms. Graduates support architects, quantity surveyors, estate firms, contractors, and public agencies—and may continue to HND level in their chosen discipline.
Architectural Technology
Students develop drafting and CAD skills, building construction knowledge, and presentation graphics used on real projects. The ND prepares architectural technicians who assist registered architects with working drawings, site reports, and contract documentation.
Estate Management and Valuation
This programme covers property administration, introductory valuation, agency practice, and building technology as applied to land and buildings. Technicians support estate surveyors and valuers in lettings, facility management, and public-sector land administration.
Quantity Surveying
Quantity surveying students learn measurement, estimation, tendering, and cost control for construction works. They assist QS consultants and contractors with bills of quantities, variations, and procurement documentation—skills in high demand as Nigeria invests in roads, housing, and commercial estates.
Studio, site, and workshop facilities
RECTEM provides spaces for drawing, model work, material testing, and computer-aided design. Field exercises reinforce scale, accuracy, and reporting standards expected on live projects.
NBTE standards and SIWES
All programmes are structured in four semesters with SIWES in relevant firms—estate agencies, QS practices, architectural offices, or contractors. This mirrors national polytechnic practice and strengthens graduate employability.
Interdisciplinary collaboration
Environmental programmes naturally overlap: architects need QS input on costs; estate managers need construction awareness. RECTEM encourages students to understand how disciplines interact on site, preparing them for team-based industry work.
